With Back to Go, Third Sex’s second full-length album, the band refines their fiery queercore spirit into a more melodic but no less razor-sharp punk sound. Paying tribute to queer punk love stories, the album captures the rawness of coming-of-age moments: sharing sweaty DIY spaces, navigating tumultuous breakups, and finding empowerment in community. Co-lead vocals from Peyton Marshall and Trish Walsh cut through every track, ensuring their point lands with undeniable clarity.
Originally recorded and mixed by Joanna Bolme at Jackpot! Recording in Portland, OR, and produced by Donna Dresch in April 1999, this re-release features “Hold On,” a previously unheard bonus track from the same sessions. Whether delivering gritty hooks like "Metal Skin" or the haunting standout "Go Away," Back to Go offers unrelenting authenticity with sharp harmonies and pounding urgency that harken to the likes of Sleater-Kinney’s The Hot Rock.
This is an album built on the backbone of riot grrrl and queercore, with DIY roots and a polished edge that never dulls its bite. Thanks to its irresistible melodies and unflinching energy, Back to Go will have you returning to track one over and over.
