Turn back time to 1994, the queer angst of youth, a time when being young and different often meant being isolated and alone. The sound is simple & direct driving bass and drums, jangly then hella distorted guitars, plaintive and unrestrained vocals. They sing about tormented love, about coming out to homophobic parents, about being harassed on the street for looking a certain way, and -- importantly -- about fighting back.

Trish Walsh & Peyton Marshall comprise the core of the band, joined by drummer Killer (L.A.’s Speed Queens), and later Rusten (San Francisco’s Cypher in the Snow and Portland’s Harum-Scarum). You could easily find them sharing a bill with bands like Team Dresch, Sleater-Kinney, and Excuse Seventeen. If you’re an LP cover art collector, you might recognize Trish and Peyton as the two women acting the part of track stars on the cover of Team Dresch’s “Personal Best.”

"We got a lot of mail from people who were isolated in small towns in the 90s," Marshall says. "Bands like ours were lifelines for queer kids of all kinds, especially in situations that they couldn't see a way out of. They listened to our records and came to our shows and they felt less alone. We still have a lot of those letters and they're really moving to look through."

As pioneers of Portland’s queercore scene, these songs capture a unique moment in time: personal, rebellious, and unrelentingly authentic. This is the kind of raw punk magic that feels nostalgic even if you’re just hearing it for the first time.
