A folk triumph. Years in the making, The Bane of Progress is a quiet, reflective, stirring album with all the right touches. Bolstered by a cast of ringers including members of The Decemberists and Norfolk & Western, the smoldering, literate ballads are evocative. Human, forlorn, searching are all apt descriptors. But there’s a silver lining in these cloudy songs, and Jeff London charms listeners with his classic melodies and earnest tenor.
